This is great and one of the best things you can do for yourself and teach your children. I paid off and cut up my credit cards about 5 years ago now, and it has been so nice to not have that debt looming. We have been following his principles for several years- paid off all our debt except mortgage and student loans- which we are working on now. We have our emergency fund+ and it feels good to only buy something if we can truly afford it.
