Five Weeks of Weight Watchers

April 26, 2010

When I started grocery shopping better, and watching what I eat, and calculating and exercising more, I wasn’t sure when certain goals would be met. I figured I’d lose a pound a week and it would take 60 weeks or more to lose all the weight that I need to. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would reach the first 5% goal by my birthday (FYI, it’s May 2!).

But I’m going to.

I am ONE POUND away from that first goal. That means that the day after my birthday, when I officially weigh in, I will have stuck with something and lost 10.65 pounds since starting.

Do you understand the emotions coursing through my body right now? I am on cloud 9, a weight loss high of sorts, and nervous. As the pounds come off, changes are happening and will happen. I will have to go shopping for smaller clothes. Yes, that’s exciting, but it’s also scary. It’s like shedding the fat girl skin like a skin would, leaving it behind for people to gawk at and say, “Ew!” about. It means going to the store with ginormous mirrors that make you look horrible from every angle, dirty carpet and broken locks, hangers all over the place, and just a very unfriendly feeling dressing room. I sometimes wonder, “If they can put flowers and positive messages on menstrual pad wrappers, why can’t they do something positive about dressing rooms?”. But I digress.

Reaching a goal is huge for me, it symbolizes my efforts, motivation, and will power. In the past, I have failed. Many times. This time? I’m in this for life.

Today’s weigh in puts me at 203.5

My 5% goal is 202.4

Yay you! I absolutely know what you mean and setting those smaller goals is important. Sometimes we pound ourselves into such a hopelessly negative state that each victory with smaller goals is what we need to get our head above water and gain momentum. Keep it up!
