I don’t know if it’s true, or where I even heard it, or if I even have the information right, but I once heard that it takes 21 days for new habits to form. Have you heard about that?
More then 21 days ago I started substituting pop and juices for water. More then 21 days ago I started tracking my food intake, and my exercise. More then 21 days ago I started enjoying the life I have. I’m forming new habits, healthy and important habits.
It’s funny how you see something motivational, or heartbreaking, and it pushes you to change. You can take so many examples… seeing “Food Revolution” and wanting to change the way you eat, seeing or hearing about the loss of marine life after the oil spill can make you more aware of the world and mother nature, and that maybe we really do need to take care of the Earth we live on. Hearing that your child has a disease makes you more aware and makes you change your life completely. It can even be simple things, things like reading someone else’s story and becoming inspired to do good.
I’m trying to make myself a better person, inside and out. I want to be around longer, to see my grand children and even great grand children run and laugh and play. I want to be a good example, and a role model for those looking to change. I don’t know how many are following my journey, and I’m not looking to take a head count, but if you are, and you are watching for my weekly results, I do appreciate it. It holds me accountable, and even helps push me. Knowing that someone can find inspiration in my small changes, in my less-then-spectacular change is a HUGE push. Small things like comments on here, or positive Twitter messages help me form these habits and continue with them, while breaking the bad.
I’m down a pound. According to my scale (which needed a new battery, so I didn’t weigh until Tuesday), I am 0.1 pounds away from my 10% goal. I’m sure I could have sneezed and met it, but in my eyes, I’ve met that. That’s a total of 10.5 pounds GONE. That’s a bag of potatoes. I know for some, 10 pounds is nothing, but to me, that is just insane. I knew when I started Weight Watchers that I would lose weight, but to actually see and feel the difference blows my mind! THAT is the push I need! I need these small goals to help me achieve me the larger one. Little by little I am going to chip away at this. By the end, I will have all new habits, and a new way of life.
Forming new habits isn’t hard, it just takes dedication. If it’s something you WANT, you have to work for it. There are no ifs, ands or buts about it!

I have heard that 21 days forms a habit. I wish I could stop drinking my Coke but no way. It is the only thing I have that I can splurge on. So I quit eating fast food and I still crave it but not as bad any more. So keep up the great work! Congrats on your goal!

I didn’t know that. And here I think that it would take forever for me to change certain habits etc – but 21 days is NOT that bad at all! You go girl! And I love that your hubby commented — awwwww!!! <3

Thats awesome! I wish I had your discipline. I have never drank soda, but I replaced milk and tea with water – over 21 days ago – and I havent lost an ounce, LOL BUT I feel better – I have more energy, so its a start. And I agree – ten pounds IS a big deal! Kudos to you!!!

That’s a huge accomplishment! And yes, drinking water instead of juices and pop is going to do a world of good for your weight loss.
CONGRATULATIONS!

great job. Yes I have heard that too. I think biggest loser talks about it. I have gone to mostly water too. I do allow myself to have a crystal light or diet snapple tea.
Thanks for the 21 days reminder! I need to form some new healthy habits of my own, and you’ve encouraged me to do so!

Good for you for trying to make a change! 21 days is a long time. I really want to stop drinking soda. Maybe I’ll start tomorrow.
Your doing so great! I’m proud of you! Keep it up! I made an amazing healthy pizza the other night you have to try!
I heard the same thing about the 21 days from a good friend of mine. Her mom does seminars on that type of thing. She calls them “Accountabilities”. My friend challenges us ( a group of friends) to make a list of our accountabilities each week, then we hold each other to sticking to them each DAY! She’s inspired me to do things that better myself so that I can be a better mom and friend!
