Giveaway! Sprout Organic Baby Food by Tyler Florence

July 5, 2010

Tyler Florence, who is the father of three (two of them under the age of four), created Sprout to give parents the tools to encourage healthy eating habits starting with their newborns’ first bites. Florence believes that by the time our kids enter school their taste buds and eating habits having already formed, and the best way to instill healthy eating habits is to feed newborns pure, nutritious, organic foods starting with their first bites. Sprout’s recipes harness Florence’s culinary expertise, with highly nutritious, flavorful foods that your baby will love, including: Roasted Bananas & Brown Rice, Pasta with Lentil Bolognese, Roasted Pears & Apricots, Sweet Peas & Garden Green Beans and many more.

Florence’s Sprout has grown to include 18 recipes now available online and at other local retailers found here http://sproutbabyfood.com/storeLocator.php.

I have never heard of roasted apple, but most of mine have enjoyed all of the fruit choices they have for 6 months and older. Squash most of them have liked, but for some reason peas haven’t been a favorite starter food.

My baby won’t be six months old until February since he or she is still gestating, but I have never heard of Sprout so I thought I’d enter!

A friend bought me “The Everything Cooking for Baby and Toddler Book” by Shana Priwer and Cynthia Phillips.
It’s great and to the point. Most baby “cookbooks” contain under 100 recipes! This one gives you 300!

They also listed a bunch here..

We have had success with…

BABY BISCOTTI TEETHING BISCUIT
*9-12 months*
8–10 Servings
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 EGG YOLK ONLY – unless older then 1yr!
1 tablespoon oil, milk, water, or soy milk

1. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.
2. Add egg yolk, oil, and milk. Stir until the mixture forms a firm dough.
3. Shape the dough into a log about 6 inches long. Place on a greased cookie sheet, and press the log into a bar about 2 inches wide. Bake at
325°F for 20 minutes then cool to touch.
4. Cut diagonally into 1/2-inch slices. Spread out on the cookie sheet; then bake for another 10–15 minutes. Slices should be crispy and dry.
5. Let cool.
