Perez Hilton Say What?!

I keep hearing about this show called, “16 and Pregnant”. I have never watched it, or even looked it up to see what it’s about. To me, it sounds like MTV created a show to just stir up controversy, and to give people the idea that it’s okay to judge young moms, and to poke fun of them, or call them names.

Here’s an example…

Yes, I occasionally read Perez Hilton, but this another one of those little comments or titles that just ticks me off. I was 17 and pregnant, so I know what it’s like, first hand, to be called names, to be looked at, laughed at, and left out. I do not agree with calling young girls whores, in any situation. Sure, maybe there is a girl who is making poor choices, but SHE is making those choices. In what world is it okay to see a young mom and immediately judge her? Why would you even want? Is there some kind of sick satisfaction in putting others down?

Perez, you need to apologize. Young moms deserve just as much respect as you give Lady Gaga. You want to know why? Because they are facing tremendous amounts of pressure, obstacles, and ridicule for a situation that more times then not, can’t be controlled. There are situations where birth control choices fail, and no one can be blamed. Yet when you call that girl a whore, you are doing nothing more then demoralizing her, cutting her self-esteem and confidence in half, and throwing her to the curb. You need to apologize to the thousands of young women who have been raped, and consequently impregnated. Are they whores? Would you call them a whore on your blog? Enough is enough! You want equality so badly for the gay and lesbian community, what about those are disabled? Or young mothers? How about, instead, you go after the men who abuse young children, or the domestically abused women? Find something else to do with your time. Young moms take enough heat from family, friends, classmates, and professionals, they don’t need your crap and snap judgements!

Quick note: No, I will not watch the show. Yes, I read Perez Hilton, but it’s occasional and when I’m bored out of my mind or trying to avoid work.

Would be curious to know if Perez was sexually active at 16.

He’s no damned different than a pregnant teen, if he was.

That show is just deplorable…seriously it makes me sick to even watch the way some of those girls behave with their children, BUT I don’t think calling them whores was the right thing to do!

You know, I caught the end of Season One when I was at the gym. (hehe – would never watch it at home on purpose). I really don’t know what MTV was trying to achieve? Glamourizing it? Or simply taking advantage of these young moms at a very hard time in their lives?

First, I think MTV sucks for even doing the show. I miss good old real world, season 1. LOL.

And I have nothing to say about Perez Hilton. He is in it for the shock factor, I suppose. Gay or not, men will never understand what it is to be pregnant at any age.

I’m not even going to say the word that I think suites Perez well- obviously I don’t like him, nor do I read his blog. Just because you are a young mother or father does not mean that you are a whore. I love Eryns comment, I am sure Perez did have sex at that age.
I have watched the show a few times. i think that the show does two things- It makes some young women look bad but some of those women choose to show the world that they would rather go out every night with friends than take the responsibility of caring for their child (luckily by the end of the episode the young woman had a wake up call and realized that she needed to stay home more) But the show also shows some of the struggles that young mothers have to go through- struggling to make ends meet, struggling to keep up with work, a child and school, and struggling with relationships. most of the young women did an amazing job dealing with everything they had to go through, I think that stuff may give people a new respect for teen mothers.

MTV will do damn near anything for entertainment. The sad thing is, in normal TV shows, this would be a “wake up call” to the issues of teen pregnanc–that it happens and is a very real thing. MTV just exploits it for entertainment.

  8. I so agree with you here. I feel for young girls who end up being mothers while they themselves are still just children. I know that many times they have made a mistake – don’t we all? Their mistake (and sometimes something more horrible) is just plain in the open for everyone to see where as many others gets to hide theirs. I agree with you that there is no room for people to make fun or ridicule these girls. They have enough without us making it even worse for them. Thank you for being so open and honest about this topic!

I watch MTV regularly. I haven’t, nor will I ever watch this show. I think it has more to do with my feeling about watching shows that exploit people, like Hoarders-another one, I refuse to watch. I couldn’t watch a train wreck, the same goes for shows…

As far as Perez, he’s gotten to where he is, by making comments like that. That’s pretty norm on his blog, I wouldn’t hold your breath for an apology-the best thing you can do when you read a blog you don’t like-don’t go back-oddly enough the same goes for TV.

I too was a teen mom (17) and I just can’t stand the show. As far as perez he is a total shock jock. That’s how he makes his money and I agree with Nicole dont expect him to be sorry or apologize anytime soon.

I was a young mother too. I was 19 and although some might not see that as young, I was. It makes you have to grow up way before you should and it is a tough job. They need support. Not crap. They go though 9 months of that on their own.

  19. I think I have watched bits and pieces of that show one time. If I had cable, yes I would probably watch the show after all, I LOVE reality t.v. I do feel that Perez Hilton was wrong in calling them Whores. But like someone said before me, he is in it for the shock factor.. he is not someone I watch nor read about.
