Preschool Homeschooling – First Weeks

Without going into details, we made the decision to homeschool. After a year and a half with a public special needs preschool, we just weren’t happy with what was happening. It was actually something we had thought of during a previous incident (okay, I’ll say, they “forgot” about Chubbs and continued their route, in another city, 7 miles up the road. I was FREAKED, but he was safe. The bus driver, however, laughed about the situation. I could have screamed.) and we just kept it on the back burner.

I spent a lot of December reading homeschool blogs, researching, and brainstorming. I wanted to know how others were doing it, what schedules they followed, what materials they were purchasing. It’s incredibly fascinating! So I started planning, and printing, and we started talking and shopping. We called the school, went through the proper procedures, and bam… we’re homeschoolers.

It’s been interesting thus far. We started on January 3rd, things all planned out, scheduled… I was on top of it. I have to admit now, that scheduling and making lists are favorites of mine… MAKING, but not following through. The first couple of weeks were great, but now we are in this place where we are nice and comfy and just going with it. Chubbs is having fun, as you can tell from that picture, he loves painting. We’ve been working on colors, and tracing lines, and the alphabet. We’re taking cues from his therapists and integrating them into everyday. It’s a loose/modified preschool curriculum, and it’s really fun. I am constantly looking for materials and ideas, and blogs have been the BEST resources so far!

Anyway, this is a very “whatever” reasoning for my lack of posts and what we’ve been up to, but as things settle and find we our groove, we’ll be sharing more of our ideas!

A fellow homeschooler here, who wishes we would have gone that route many years before we chose too. I love the large support community that the internet brings to us.

Congratulations, and welcome to the homeschooling community! :-) I have been homeschooling now for 15 years – preschool through high school – and wouldn’t trade it for anything. (I’m even looking forward to at least another 18 years of it!) Enjoy this special time with your son. :-)
