The Transformation Has Begun

It started with applying for Mamavation for the very first campaign. I knew that I wanted things to be different. I knew deep down that if I didn’t change my ways, and start to live a healthy lifestyle, that I was going to die before my time. I knew it, and yet I continued to deny myself those healthy and fun extra years.

The change took over. NO, not menopause… the change to be healthy.

I’m looking back over the past few weeks, and I see that my intake of pop has reduced. I see that instead of cookies (or cookie dough), I’m turning to fruit and water. I bought a freaking exercise bike. Instead of slowly browsing at the mall, I am busting butt to walk the fastest I can without tripping over my own two feet. Forgot competitive shopping, this is competitive “Get the heck out of here!”.

It’s a slow process, and it’s totally dependent on reaching and maintaining small goals. I’m losing numbers, but I am gaining confidence. I’m not gung-ho about exercise, but I can’t say that I ever won’t be. Things are changing, they are continuing to change, and it surprises me.

So for this past week I have been really eliminating the snacking. That mid-day crunch, the evening smooth and creamy… just trying to get rid of them. I’m enjoying fat free hot chocolate instead of the “regular” kind with my family. I’m having 2 big marshmallows on the top, and taking the time to enjoy it, because it truly is a TREAT.

Hopping on my bike is great. I have not mastered the whole pedal and type thing, so I haven’t done much blog reading and commenting as I was hoping, but I have been able to challenge myself and push myself to go a little longer, a little harder.

BUT, I haven’t stuck to a good schedule for anything. We have had a lot going on this past week, and this week is just as bad. The holidays really suck. In more ways then one. Any other time, I would be shoveling in fat and calorie laden treats to smother the depression and heartache. This year, I’m taking a big gulp of water, some deep breaths, and shoveling in gum to keep my mouth busy.

No scale pic because I think it’s broken. I got on and it said 202, then I got off and took OFF my shirt, and it said 204. I got off and let it reset and turn off, got back on and it said 201. So… I’m going to find the time to test it, or just go buy another one.

Oh, and for 2010, I am going to have a schedule for working out. An actual, written-down-on-the-calendar type of thing, to make sure that I am sticking to this. Want to know why? Well, we’ve decided to start homeschooling Chubbs. Look for the post on that coming very soon!

Good for you. I too have went from a size 9 12 years ago to a size 14 now have been up to a 20 in those years. My niece is opening a weight gym in my little town and I’m going to be the first customer in line. It will be fun following your success as I make my own.
Good luck and God bless you on your goal. Johnita

  2. Hey girl! I’m very happy for you. I have noticed the change in you too. All those small changes add up very quickly. And if you keep making more without overwhelming yourself, you are going to get healthy. XXOO

I’m excited for you and this new lifestyle change!

  3. Mandi, your one day at a time attitude is AWESOME! Your new bike looks fabulous! I wish I had one :-) Here’s to an AMAZING 2010! XO

  4. Here is to an amazing 2010 for all of us in the Sistahood! It’s great that you are able to reduce your soda and snacks. I’m afraid the soda will be the hardest for me, but once I get rid of it it will be the best for me. I completely forgot to add my scale pic – now I should go back and add it.
